Chorlton's Big Green Festival
Lisa Higginson
A celebration of local food, music, fashion, arts and crafts is set to sweep Chorlton on Saturday (March 27). Chorlton’s Big Green Festival is returning for a second year following its debut in 2009, which attracted more than 4,000 people. Environmental issues will once again be at the heart of the family friendly event and the theme for 2010 is ‘growing locally’.
The festival site will take over both St Clement’s Church and St Clement’s School, on St Clement’s Road, where there will be two outdoor music stages featuring local acts, an indoor performance area for dance demonstrations and a vintage fashion show, two cinemas screening local and environmental films, a wellbeing zone with therapies, an exhibition of recycled and reclaimed arts and crafts and swap shops for clothes, books and plants. Festival-goers will also have the chance to take part in scarecrow decorating, a bike ride around Chorlton and a huge Ceilidh finale.

Indulge in afternoon tea - Manchester style
Lauren Coulman
“How lovely”, exclaimed my dad when I told him I was writing this feature. “I love afternoon tea”, was offered by my friend Hannah. A whole range of positive proclamations came forth when I explained I was going to hunt down the best places in Greater Manchester to enjoy the delightful and indulgent experience that is afternoon tea. After all, it’s pretty hard to be negative about afternoon tea, an occasion which offers up a bounty of tea, cakes and scones. All English favourites, and an exquisite way to indulge at a time of day often reserved for work or lazy afternoons. How very lovely indeed.
